The Cyversity – Columbus Chapter Scholarship Award Criteria is detailed below for applicants seeking an award from our Chapter. If the cost of a certification or course is holding you back from a fulfilling career in Cybersecurity, here’s your chance to remove that barrier.

  • Scholarship to be used by March 31, 2023.
  • Funds will be released to the institution providing the training/certification or college/university. Check will be written to the Institution on behalf of the recipient.
  • Reward Applicant will provide Cyversity supplied completion certificate:

Scholarship Applicant Requirements

  • Geographic Region Eligibility: Midwest – Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.
  • Women and/or Minority and/or Veteran/Active Military Duty
  • Must meet one of the following Criteria:
    • Pursuing a degree in Information Security/Cybersecurity
    • Pursuing a career in Information Security/Cybersecurity
    • Currently working within Information Security/Cybersecurity
  • Cyversity Membership is not required to apply for a scholarship, however if selected as a Scholarship recipient, Cyversity Membership is required to be activated within 60 days of award.

Application Process

  1. Applications are to be submitted HERE
  2. Applications will be accepted between February 15, 2022 – March 8, 2022.
  3. Applicant names will be masked during the selection review process.
  4. Applications will be reviewed by the Columbus Chapter Scholarship Selection Committee.
  5. Top Applicants will be requested to participate in a 15–30-minute virtual interview with the Columbus Scholarship Selection Committee between March 15, 2022 – April 9, 2022.
  6. Scholarships will be awarded by April 19, 2022.

T.E.N. and ISE® Talent work together to offer two undergraduate scholarships for the International Consortium of Minority Cybersecurity Professionals (Cyversity).

The Marci McCarthy Cybersecurity Certification Scholarship Program provides $5,000 over a two-year period to help talented women and minority students advance in cybersecurity and obtain the Security+ Certification via CompTIA. This scholarship is awarded at Cyversity’s Annual Conference to the highest achieving Female, Veteran, African American, Hispanic American, Native American, Asian Pacific, Asian Indian, or sub-Saharan African who are active Cyversity members and have demonstrated academic excellence, leadership skills, and a commitment to Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM) careers to include cybersecurity, digital forensics, and information assurance.

Further enhancing the congressional citation from Rep. Henry C. “Hank” Johnson, Jr. (D-GA 4th Congressional District), wherein he named March 13, 2012 as “Marci McCarthy Day,” this scholarship was created to honor Marci McCarthy’s overall work in fostering greater professionalism in the IT security industry in an effort to advance cyberspace protection in the private and public sectors.

The Lynx Technology Partners Scholarship Program recognizes the highest achieving Female, Veterans, African American, Hispanic American, Native American, Asian Pacific, Asian Indian or sub-Saharan African, who have demonstrated academic excellence, leadership skills, and a commitment to Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM) careers to include, Cybersecurity Digital Forensics and Information Assurance.  Each Lynx Technology Partners Scholarship Program winner receives up to $5,000 award to be used toward the cost of attendance at a university.

The Nelson H. Waits, Sr. Education Fund recognizes the highest achieving Female, Veterans, African American, Hispanic American, Native American, Asian Pacific, Asian Indian or sub-Saharan African, who have demonstrated academic excellence, leadership skills, and a commitment to Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM) careers to include, Cybersecurity, Digital Forensics, Intelligence, Homeland Security, and Information Assurance.

Each Nelson H. Waits, Sr. Education Fund winner may be eligible to receive up to a $2,500 award to be used toward the cost of attendance at a local university.

THE PROGRAM
Yeshiva University (YU) offers a master’s degree in Cybersecurity at its midtown Manhattan campus. The program focuses on both the requisite tactical and technical skills necessary to effectively protect an organization from inside and outside threats, as well as the business acumen to understand the overall role of cybersecurity within an organization’s governance.

Cyversity MEMBERS – students and professionals – are encouraged to apply for the:  $2500 Yeshiva University Graduate Dean’s Scholarship in Cybersecurity.

THE BENEFITS
The YU graduate program is convenient, flexible & fast; with part-time and full-time options, as well as evening classes; and there’s NO GRE REQUIREMENT. Students in the YU masters program will  focus on:  threat hunting, protection against network breaches, cloud security and managing ethical cyber teams; you’ll participate in:

  • Seminars on AI, blockchain and cryptography
  • Hands-on experience on a state-of-the art cyber range
  • Real world virtual cybersecurity lab simulations
  • Develop your own ideas and products in the cyber innovation lab

STUDENT PROFILE

Scholarship Description: 

The 2023 Cyversity Training Scholarship Made Possible by Tenable will award twenty-eight scholarships for Certified Informations Systems Security Professional (CISSP) online self-paced training from ISC2 to Cyversity members.

Training Details: 

CISSP online adaptive training enables you to tailor your learning to your individual needs. The experience includes interactive study materials, robust search functionality to home in on topics, analytics dashboards to track your progress, email support and 24/7 course availability.

This course provides a review of information systems security concepts and industry best practices included in the CISSP Common Body of Knowledge (CBK) across the following domains:

-Domain 1: Security and Risk Management
-Domain 2: Asset Security
-Domain 3: Security Architecture and Engineering
-Domain 4: Communication and Network Security

Scholarship Description:

Scholarship Description: 
Cyversity is teaming up with United Airlines to award scholarships for cybersecurity training to its members. The scholarship will cover the cost of computer-based and simulation training for those looking to grow and advance their cybersecurity knowledge and skills. The scholarship will also include the cost of the certification exam fee.

Training Details: 
All recipients will receive Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) training. After the GRC training, recipients will choose one of three additional training areas. The in-depth training options include Cybersecurity Network Defense (Blue Teaming), Application Security (Red Teaming), and Cloud Security.

The entire training program will take four to six months to complete. The online, on-demand training will begin on May 22, 2023, and end on November 17, 2023. To be successful in this training program, you will need to dedicate five to seven hours per week to complete the online training sessions.

Phase I of the training scholarship will focus on the topics of Governance, Risk, and Compliance. It will take approximately one to two months to complete this phase. You must successfully complete Phase I before moving on to Phase II.

In Phase II, you can focus on one of three training paths: Application Security (Red Teaming), Network Security (Blue Teaming), or Cloud Security. It will take approximately three to four months to complete this phase.

The Angela Nichols Cybersecurity Certification Scholarship Program will award scholarships for cybersecurity training to Cyversity members. The scholarship will cover the cost of computer-based and simulation training for those looking to grow and advance their cybersecurity knowledge and skills. The scholarship will also include the cost of the certification exam fee.

All recipients will receive Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) training. After the GRC training, recipients will choose one of three additional training areas. In-depth training options include Cybersecurity Network Defense (Blue Teaming), Red Teaming, and Cloud Security.

This Training Scholarship was available to active Cyversity members who were affiliated with the NYC Chapter ONLY.

This scholarship program, made possible by Cyversity & Morgan Franklin will allow 3 participants to attend a virtual CRISC Boot Camp and sit for the CRISC exam

Cyversity, in partnership with Morgan Franklin, will be awarding 3 scholarships to Cyversity members who would like to pursue their CRISC certification. The scholarship will cover the cost of a 3 day CRISC bootcamp which will be held March 29 – 31, 2023,and the CRISC Exam (1 opportunity only).

Scholarship Description: 

Cyversity is teaming up with Blue Cross Blue Shield Association to award scholarships for cybersecurity training to its members. The scholarship will cover the cost of computer-based and simulation training for those looking to grow and advance cybersecurity knowledge and skills. The scholarship will also include the cost of the certification exam fee.

Since mentoring is a key component of developing talent and supporting the success of our next generation of cybersecurity professionals, leaders at Blue Cross Blue Shield Association will serve as mentors for the training scholarship recipients for 16 weeks. The mentorship program will include:

  • 1:1 or group matching with pre-qualified mentors who are senior industry leaders
  • A platform that encourages open and direct communications, and support from other Mentees and Mentors

Training Details: 

All recipients will receive Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) training. After the GRC training, recipients will choose one of three additional training areas. The in-depth training options include Cybersecurity Network Defense (Blue Teaming), Application Security (Red Teaming), and Cloud Security.

The entire training program will take four to six months to complete. The online, on-demand training will begin on April 24, 2023 and end on November 3, 2023. To be successful in this training program,  you will need to dedicate five to seven hours per week completing the online training sessions.

Phase I of the training scholarship will focus on Governance, Risk and Compliance topics. It will take approximately one to two months to complete this phase. You must successfully complete Phase I before moving onto Phase II.

In Phase II, you will have the option to focus on one of three training paths: Application Security (Red Teaming), Network Security (Blue Teaming), or Cloud Security. It will take approximately three to four months to complete this phase.

Scholarship eligibility:

  • Cyversity Member in good standing
  • Recent college graduate that pursued a degree in cybersecurity, computer science or equivalent.
  • New to the field of cybersecurity with zero to three years of experience.

2022 Scholarships

The enrollment period is from October 17, 2022 to November 23, 2022.

Cyversity and SANS have joined forces to offer SCHOLARSHIPS for training programs.  The Cyversity-SANS DIVERSITY CYBER ACADEMIES (DCAs) are offered around the country. Our DCA scholarships increase the career opportunities for minorities and women in the cybersecurity field. Each DCA scholarship is a 100% funded, four-to-six-month accelerated, immersive cybersecurity training program providing eligible candidates with advanced technical training, industry-recognized GIAC certifications and hands-on cyber defense and incident handling skills sought by employers.

Cyversity is teaming up with TikTok to award scholarships for cybersecurity training to its members. The scholarship will cover the cost of computer-based and simulation training for those looking to grow and advance cybersecurity knowledge and skills. The scholarship will also include the cost of the certification exam fee.

All recipients will receive Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) training. After the GRC training, recipients will choose one of three additional training areas. In-depth training options include Cybersecurity Network Defense (Blue Teaming), Red Teaming, and Cloud Security.

This scholarship program was made possible by ISC2 and enabled 15 participants the opportunity to attend a virtual Certified in Cybersecurity (CC) online course and sit for the CC exam.

Cyversity, in partnership with ISC2, awarded 15 scholarships to Cyversity members to pursue an entry level cybersecurity certification.  The scholarship includes covering the cost of the online 14 hour self-paced training course and the certification exam.

The entry level cybersecurity certification will  “help you create the solid foundation of knowledge employers are looking for, from an association they already trust.”

This scholarship program, made possible by Target, allows 10 participants to attend a virtual CISSP Boot Camp and sit for the CISSP exam.

Cyversity, in partnership with Target, will be awarding 10 scholarships to Cyversity members who would like to pursue their CISSP certification. The scholarship will cover the cost of a 1 week CISSP boot camp which will be held August 16th – 20th, the CISSP Exam (1 opportunity only) and a CISSP study guide.

This is a Vaco employment opportunity aligned to MorganFranklin’s cybersecurity offering (Vaco LLC, dba “MorganFranklin Cyber”).

What Will You Do?

This internship is a 10-week immersive experience that provides direct exposure into one or more of these areas of cybersecurity with real world deliverables for our clients.  In addition, you will be provided education in all pillars of Cybersecurity (Strategy, Governance Risk and Compliance; Identity & Access Management; Application Security; Security Operations; Incident Response & Risk Intelligence) directly from those delivering on these services in the field.

This experience will include a mentor dedicated to you, as well as regular touchpoints with our program lead and other interns.  All of this, paired with virtual (and potentially in-person) networking events and a joint project/presentation with fellow interns, will prove to be a fulfilling experience for any entry-level cybersecurity professional.

  • Program will run from June 5 to August 11, 2023 (10 weeks)
  • Orientation will be provided prior to start date
  • Training and feedback will be provided throughout the term
  • There will be at least one internal assignment to be completed during the term
  • Offers will be presented in April
  • Minimum Qualifications
    • Focus of study in Technology or Business with a strong interest in Cybersecurity
    • Completed Sophomore year by start of internship
    • Be a team player who has exceptional written and oral skills
    • Willingness to learn and take advantage of educational opportunities
    • Must be available for the full 10 weeks of the program – June 5 to August 11, 2023
    • This will be a predominantly virtual role, but limited travel may be required (required travel reimbursed)
    • Willing to submit to background check and drug testing
    • Provide 2-3 references upon request
